Dear Strand Fan,Tonight Friday Night Frights returns for a special October film. Film guru Jason Hignite chose a classic from 1984. This is in keeping with our theme "1984 Forty Years Later." THE COMPANY OF WOLVES (1984)The movie is a loose adaptation of "Little Red Riding Hood," blending Gothic horror with fairy tale elements to explore themes of adolescence, and transformation.Doors open at 7pm and the movie starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the door.
***Our final Tuesday Night Film Series event of the year features an unusual film. The movie TRICK 'R TREAT (2007) had a unique release history that made it different from most films that debut in theaters. Originally intended for a theatrical release in October 2007, it faced delays and was eventually released straight to video in 2009.
Despite being well-received at early screenings, Warner Bros. decided to pull Trick 'r Treat from its theatrical release schedule. It was likely due to concerns about its marketability, competition with other films at the time, or a shift in strategy within the studio.
The film is an anthology, telling multiple interconnected stories that happen on Halloween night. Anthology movies can be harder to market, as audiences are often more drawn to linear narratives with a single plot. This might have made the studio cautious about releasing it widely in theaters.
The Halloween season is a competitive time for horror films, and the studio might have worried Trick 'r Treat wouldn't perform well against other releases. They opted for a direct-to-DVD strategy instead, which was less risky financially.
Despite the unconventional release, the movie gained a strong cult following over time. It became popular through word-of-mouth, home video sales, and streaming platforms.
Now is your chance to see this on the big screen, sit in the balcony, and enjoy this classic the way it should have been shown. The movie starts at 7:30pm on Tuesday October 29, 2024. Tickets are available at the door.
(the start time for the 2025 Tuesday Night Film Series and Friday Night Frights will move to 7pm starting in February 2025)

The marquee is still taking baby steps in revealing what it is. This week volunteers Bob Schlick and David Finkel removed much of the old electricity.
(warning, tech talk ahead) The wiring was old BX with cloth covered wire. BX wire was first introduced around 1903 by the General Electric Company. It was developed as a safer and more durable alternative to the knob-and-tube wiring that was commonly used at the time. The term "BX" is believed to come from a product code used by the manufacturer, but the exact origin of the name remains somewhat unclear. Today BX is not used, we use a more modern version known as MC cable.
Both are armoured cable and we are happy to say goodbye to the BX that was powering our flood lights under the marquee. Bob and David left one to shed some light, but the process is slowly moving forward.

Please note our performance of Johnny Cash/Neil Diamond scheduled for this weekend has been postponed until April 12, 2025.
