Shelbyville, IN – Prepare for a wickedly good time at the Shelby County Public Library’s Haunted House fundraiser. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 6:30 to 10 pm, with the last group allowed entrance at 9:30 pm.
Tickets go on sale October 1 at the front desk. Tickets are $10 each, or $25 for a family of 4. Tickets at the door will be $12 each; presales will get first entry. Join the Friends of the Library for $15 and get a free ticket!
Both buildings and the courtyard will be “spooked.” Entry will be in the Carnegie East Wing front doors at the top of the ramp.; exit from the main library. The alley behind the library will be closed for the night.
This is the library’s big fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going toward programming and events for 2026. It will be held rain or shine.
Other frightfully fun activities slated for October include:
Halloween Festival – Youth Services Department
Saturday, October 4 from 1-3 pm
All ages are welcome, but our 0-5 and elementary students will probably have the most fun.
Wear your favorite costume and celebrate early with a Halloween festival at Shelby County Public Library. The free event for kids and their families is being held in both the outdoor plaza and in the youth services department, located downstairs in the main library building.
Come join our spooky festival of games, candy and prizes. Take a family picture at our 'photo booth,' jump in our giant ball pit and make some ghostly crafts. Every student will receive a treat bag with small toys and goodies. We encourage everyone to wear a costume as they come into the youth services department to enjoy our games and fun.

The Deadville Tapes

5 pm – 6 pm
Shelbyville Branch - Youth Program Room
Ages 12-18
The Deadville Tapes is the working title for a web series of videos in the style of found footage/analog horror/ghost hunting. Elements from popular web series such as Hellier, Spirits of the Stanley and Local 58 will be our inspiration as we weave our own tale! For extra vibes, video content will be shot on VHS camcorders, then digitized for editing. This project has so much space for students interested in sound design, acting and media production. We are very excited to start this journey, make friends and have some content to be very proud of!
This is a mixed digital media web series written, produced and directed by our students. Each meeting will be a little different, but all will be fun!
