With no social media, radio or television in the early 1900s, people looked forward to reading the morning news. Master storyteller Donna Dennison as “Gabby Meddleson” will share highlights from a historical newspaper for this installment of the Community Treasure Series. Join us from 7-8 pm on Wednesday, June 4 at The Strand Theatre, 215 S. Harrison St.
As a natural orator, current librarian, and former teacher, Dennison establishes a rapport with audiences of all ages, creating a climate where hysterical laughter and historical learning combine. In the homespun characters of Gabby Meddleson, Temperance Quack, Sarah Mayhew, Clara Belle Conrey, and Sarah Shank, Dennison has been featured at multiple venues in Shelby County and across Indiana. Her storytelling - including historical home remedies, household tips, and tales gleaned from Shelby County Public Library’s Genealogy & History Department – brings the past to life for today’s audience.
